Plasmonic Nanoantennas in Strong Femtosecond Laser Fields

In direct vicinity of gold nanostructures, plasmonic resonances can provide an enhancement orders of magnitude beyond the incident laser field. Here, non-linear strong field phenomena can be studied with moderate laser pulse energies directly from a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser oscillator. Harmonic generation, surface ablation, and a surprising self-optimization of the nanoantennas is observed and analyzed.
