This is an old website for this course. The website for WS 2018/2019 is here.

This course intends to cover some advanced topics of quantum mechanics:

  • Review of some basic concepts
  • Scattering
  • Time-dependent perturbation theory
  • Interaction of matter and radiation
  • Non-relativistic many-particle systems (Second Quantisation)
  • Relativistic quantum mechanics

Besides the lecture sessions on Mondays and Fridays, there will be weekly tutorials where contents of the lecture will be reviewed in smaller groups by means of simple exercises. Some more advanced homework exercises will be available on this website, whose solutions will be discussed in a central tutorial session on Mondays 12:00-14:00 in Theresienstrasse 39, B139. All tutorials start in the second week of the semester (i.e. in the week of October 23).

You will not be required to hand in any homework.

We will offer two exam sessions in the semester holidays at the end of this term, out of which you are required to choose (and pass) at least one. Dates and organisational details for the exams will be indicated on this website at a later time.

All standard introductions to Quantum Mechanics are fine, and we encourage you to make your own choice. Material of the course is drawn in particular from

  • David J. Griffiths, Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2nd ed.), Addison Wesley (2004)
  • Lecture notes on Quantum Mechanics by John McGreevy.
  • Gordon Baym, Lectures on Quantum Mechanics, Benjamin Cummings (1969).
  • Franz Schwabl, Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Springer (2008).
