TVI/TMP-TA1: Theoretical Solid State Physics – Overview



Lectures: Tuesdays 12:15 - 13:45 in room B101
              Thursdays 16:15 - 17:45 in room B101

Prerequisites: Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics

The aim of this course is to learn about basic theoretical concepts and phenomena in solid state systems

Course outline (tentative):

  1. Crystal structure and phonons
  2. Band theory of electrons in solids
  3. Fermi liquid theory
  4. Interacting electrons
  5. Electron transport and the Boltzmann equation
  6. Linear response theory, dielectric properties of solids
  7. Magnetism
  8. Superconductivity

The written exam will take place on Thursday, Feb 21th at 10:00 in room B005 (Theresienstr. 39).
You can bring scripts, handwritten notes, books, etc., but no electronic devices!
